Can't Activate by Code, Machine Code Keeps Changing

When trying to activate by code DeployLX always reports that the activation code is invalid. Upon reviewing, the Machine Code of the problem machine changes each time the Activate Offline form is shown.

Validation Notice

The activation code that you have entered is not valid. Please double check that you have entered the code correctly. If you continue to have difficulty please contact customer service.

Cause

When you compare the machine code from multiple runs, you will find that the difference is always in the MAC Address. DeployLX Licensing includes protections against users attempting to clone or fake network cards in an attempt to use activated licenses on multiple machines. When DeployLX detects that the MAC addresses of the network cards in the machine have been cloned it will generate a random MAC address each time the machine is profiled.

In some rare server configurations, bridged network cards can trigger a false positive causing DeployLX to generate random MAC addresses for a technically valid machine.

Solution

There are two possible solutions.

  1. Instruct the user to restore their network settings so that at least one unmodified physical network card is in use.
  2. Modify the license tolerance for the MAC address and pre-activate the license.
